Hemiplegic migraine is another form of migraine with aura involving weakness on one side of the body. Neurologic symptoms may occur before the headache or during the headache phase and often outlast the headache phase. Generally, full recovery occurs, but in the meantime symptoms are similar to that of a stroke and physicians must address the potential and related conditions and certain risks. In many if not most cases, hemiplegic migraine reflects a hereditary predisposition and testing can identify the genes that are responsible.
